The FLSM community extends far beyond the reaches of our school. While each of
their practices may be vastly different from one another, a common thread remains
for each of them: their experience at FLSM, which has gone on to inform their decisions
and their work.
Graduates from our program have successfully created practices in hospitals, hospices,
extended-care facilities, retirement communities and wellness centers. They have
found employment with chiropractors, physical therapists and acupuncturists, offering
touch for injury rehabilitation, assistance with healing, self-awareness, and stress
relief and relaxation. Others are working at health clubs, sports and fitness centers,
salons and health spas. Many of our graduates go on to teach massage in their own
communities at clinics, community centers and health fairs.
We frequently hear from alumni that practicing massage has afforded them the option
to work their own hours, work in their own homes, or otherwise create more full
and satisfying lives, with time for family and other pursuits.
Here are a few words from our graduates:
Lindsay
White, 19 yrs.
Cambridge, MA Before FLSM: Farmingdale High School After FLSM: Massage Therapist!
The college fairs I attended in high school never had a massage table but I
have known what I wanted to be when I grew up for a long time. As my high school
friends busily planned for college, I began planning to fulfill my life-long
dream of becoming a massage therapist.
At FLSM the very first day to the very last day I not only felt welcome, I
really was welcome. I was able to take in so much information with such happiness,
not only massage information but life information. I have learned more in 6
months than I have in the past 19 years. The teachers in this school made learning
fun--there was so much laughter in our classrooms.
I thank every person at this school for the support, the love, and the knowledge
that helped me make my decision to come here. I hope to always be connected
to the school and the people that make it. My life begins now; I am on my path.
Michele Blair
Erie, PA Before FLSM: Full-time Mom After FLSM: Massage therapist employed at Spa
It took me years to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with my life outside
of motherhood, but ever since I happened upon the FLSM website, I felt drawn to
massage as a profession and to this school in particular. Coming here as a student
in 2003 confirmed my intuition. The staff could not have been more incredible —
each and every one so helpful, so sincere and strong in their own personal truth.
Since graduating from FLSM, I’ve found my niche working in a spa and its heavenly
work. It feels so funny receiving money for doing something so fun and at the same
time deeply meaningful to me. I am grateful to FLSM for helping me to find myself
and the career of my dreams. Sounds hokey, but it’s so true!
Tracy
MacNeal, 29 yrs
Saratoga Springs, NY Before FLSM: Chemical Engineer After FLSM: Massage Business Owner, Organic Bath & Body Care Product
Developer
FLSM gave me a safe, nurturing environment in which to get to know myself in
an entirely new way. The faculty taught compassion by demonstrating compassion,
taught respect by demonstrating respect. After only 6 months, I felt nourished,
healed, and ready to start my next adventures — beginning a massage practice,
creating a line of organic bath & body care, and most of all having a baby!
Now almost 2 years later, I have a thriving, exciting massage practice and a
healthy, hilarious, and incredibly inspiring daughter named Charlotte. I still
keep in touch with the wonderful and wise friends I made at FLSM, both in class
and on the faculty. What a fabulous experience!
