Scheduling a Student Massage

Monday – Thursdays: 5:15 – 7:15
Occasional Saturdays: 9:00 – 5:00

Our Massage School locations in New York both have clinics that provide an opportunity for our students to offer supervised massage to the public and to receive valuable feedback about their work. By participating in our Student Massage Clinic, you are helping the students of our massage program fulfill their requirements for New York City and State. They appreciate the role you play in their education and look forward to working with you!

Your first step is to fill out the form above.
Contact information for potential clinic clients is updated weekly and made available to our students.

New York massage program students then select and contact their clients independently, in a professional manner. Therefore, FLSM cannot guarantee the timeframe in which you may be called, or that any number of sessions will be scheduled. Our students work with the public as a part of their Clinic requirements. Please keep in contact with any New York massage school students you schedule with, regarding any reschedules or cancellations, as they do not get credit for canceled sessions. We will be tracking cancellations and no-shows for Student Clinics. If you cancel within 24 hours or No-Show 2 times, your name will be taken off of our Contact List. We want to provide our students with reliable options for completing their Clinic requirements.

Sessions begin promptly and last between 60 and 90 minutes. Your Student-Therapist will also take some time to discuss your intake information and your after-session feedback.

Cost of Participation

Ithaca Campus: Student massages cost $30. Please pay the Clinic Supervisor when you arrive for your session. Payment should be made by check only, payable to FLSM. The Clinic Supervisor will be available at 5:15 for check-in. Then the student will come and find you for intake.

Mount Kisco Campus: Student massages cost $35. Please pay the Clinic Supervisor when you arrive for your session. Payment should be made by check only, payable to FLSM. The Clinic Supervisor will be available at 5:15 for check-in. Then the student will come and find you for intake.

Tipping?

Though clinic clients often wish to thank their Student-Therapists for a particularly relaxing session, please keep in mind that tipping students is not permitted by New York State law. Providing clear feedback is the best "tip" you can give your Student-Therapist!

Receiving Massage

We strive to maintain a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in our clinic space, with soft lighting and pleasant music playing in the background. In accordance with New York City law and accepted massage program protocol, all clients are appropriately draped (covered with a sheet) while receiving massage. Blankets are available if you feel cool as you relax.

Client feedback for Student-Therapists is encouraged at any time during clinic sessions, therefore, quiet, discreet conversations may occur. Up to 18 Student-Therapists will be practicing in our spacious massage room at any given time.

After the Massage

We encourage you to drink plenty of water after your massage. You may want to bring a water bottle with you to your session.

Massage Techniques

Students learn a wide variety of techniques as they progress through the massage therapy certification program, including: Swedish Massage, Reflexology, Energy Work, Connective Tissue Therapy, Neuro-Muscular Therapy, Shiatsu and Sports Massage. Your Student-Therapist will speak with you about the technique(s) they plan to practice during your session, and will inquire about any preferences you may have.

Snow Days

Ithaca Campus: If FLSM classes are cancelled or let out early due to snow and/or ice, clinics are also closed. Please call our Snow Line (607-272-9026, x36) if you wish to confirm Clinic cancellation.

Mount Kisco Campus: If FLSM classes are cancelled or let out early due to snow and/or ice, clinics are also closed. Please check the following websites for cancellation information www.bedford.k12.ny.us or www.Whudfm.com

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the clinic supervised?
Yes. A member of our staff is always present for both student and client support. If you have any questions before, during, or after your session, please don't hesitate to ask.

What should I wear for my session?
You may wish to bring a robe with you to one of our changing areas. Or your therapist can "tent" the sheet to offer privacy for changing directly on the massage table. Clients are invited to undress to the level of their comfort. (Many clients choose to remove all clothing except for underwear or a bathing suit.) You will be covered securely by a sheet while you are on the massage table.

Can I receive massage if I have an injury or medical concern?
Consult your health care provider to ensure that massage is recommended for your condition and inform your Student- Therapist of any health issues when scheduling your appointment. While our students study massage techniques appropriate to a wide range of conditions, please remember that your Student-Therapist is a student-if your condition is delicate, we recommend you seek bodywork from a licensed massage therapist in the community. Our Main Office is happy to make referrals.

What will the student-therapist expect from me?
Please be on time for your session! Upon arrival, you will be invited to fill out an intake form, providing essential health information to your student-therapist. Following the massage, you will be asked a series of questions to invite constructive feedback about the session. Honest and detailed feedback is essential to the learning process and will be appreciated.

How do I cancel or change an appointment?
Please contact your Student-Therapist directly. Because FLSM does not keep individual students' schedules, your Student-Therapist will provide you with their name and phone number, as well as the date and time of your session, when they call you to schedule an appointment. Direct calls to FLSM should be made only in an emergency.

Can I request a male or female therapist?
If you have a distinct preference, please be sure to mention it when you leave your information on the Clinic Line.
