Becoming a Qualified Massage Therapist
Finger Lakes School of Massage, with tranquil locations in both Ithaca and Mt. Kisco, New York, offers comprehensive Full and Part-Time Massage Therapy training. The hands-on Massage education from FLSM is designed to give you the technical skills, real-world clinic experience and industry knowledge it takes to pursue a rewarding career helping others and also make a positive change in your own life.
The goal of this program is to prepare students for long, fruitful careers. Our students become qualified Massage practitioners, experienced in a wide range of techniques including:
- Swedish Massage
- Energy Palpation
- Shiatsu I and II
- Connective Tissue Therapy
- Neuromuscular Therapy
- Medical Massage
- Sports Massage
- Essential Oils for Massage Therapists (Aromatherapy)
- Professional Communication Skills
- Massage for Specific Populations, including Infants, The Pregnant, and the Elderly
But this is more than career training. FLSM is a place of discovery and transformation. Our teaching philosophy is to honor and encourage the individual in a supportive environment. We encourage our students to use this program as a tool for both professional development and personal growth.
Students complete their education within seven months and can begin a new career in Licensed Massage Therapy in New York within one year.

Massage is a hands-on career, and at FLSM we believe that's how it should be taught. Our graduates enter the professional world with confidence after working with real clients throughout their studies. As a Massage Therapy student at Finger Lakes School of Massage you'll complete a Massage Practicum, where you'll work with members of the community, as well as other students, while being supported by staff supervision in our classrooms.
Additionally, as a valuable part of your Massage Therapy education, you'll participate in the Community Service Clinic option of your choice. Giving back to the community is an important part of the Massage education at FLSM, whether it's working with seniors, new mothers, adults with development disabilities, volunteering at a community athletic event or a variety of other enriching opportunities.
Professional Massage practicums and community services efforts allow you to get a real feel for the career of Massage and experience what it's like to make a direct and immediate positive difference in the lives of others.
Successful graduates of both the full-time and part-time programs at Finger Lakes School of Massage are fully prepared to sit for the following important licensing exams:
- New York State Licensing Examination
- National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) Exam, which qualifies students to practice Massage in most other licensing states
State recognized licensure is required to legally practice Massage Therapy in New York State.
