We believe in providing an education that offers students the best possible technical preparation for a career in massage therapy. Equally important is each student’s opportunity to participate directly in the process of their own education. Therefore, we emphasize the following principles:

Inquiry and Empowerment

Our goal is to promote personal awareness through touch; therefore we invite students to learn massage in a context of personal inquiry and empowerment.

Individual Discovery

Students are encouraged to discover their own personal style of learning and to work with the resources of the school to maximize their experience here.

Multiple Teaching Styles

Central to our educational philosophy is what’s known as Perceptual Thinking Patterns (PTP): the idea that each person learns visually, auditorily, and kinesthetically (with varying degrees of immediacy). Therefore, an effort is made in each class to present the curriculum in all three modes.

Conversation and Compassion

Meaningful student-teacher conversation is essential to learning at FLSM. We keep our student-teacher ratios low to facilitate personal attention in the classroom and also to model the compassionate presence we ask students to bring to their work.
